Clinical Interests

Ellen Binder, M.D. provides medical care to older adults in both the long-term care and outpatient settings. She provides primary care for nursing home patients residing at the Jewish Center for the Aged (JCA). Binder also sees patients in the Older Adult Assessment Program located at the Washington University Center for Advanced Medicine. This clinic serves frail older adults that may have difficulty with memory, dementia, incontinence, medication issues, falls, nutrition problems or depression. She is an attending physician at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and is an active participant in the training of health professionals at Washington University School of Medicine.

Research Interests

Binder's research interests focus on preventing physical frailty in older adults, improving outcomes after a hip fracture, and improving nursing home care. She has studied estrogen and hormone replacement therapy and exercise in older adults, and hip fracture rehabilitation. In addition, she has studied care of older adults with pneumonia in the long-term care setting.
